Here are a few more details regarding the 54th FGIM Conference in Austin Texas!!
The conference is being held at the Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG) campus – Conference Room ROC 1.603. If you are staying at the Fairfield Inn, there will be a shuttle that will run from 7:30 am until 8:00 pm. We strongly suggest that everyone be ready to leave the hotel by 8:00 am and meet down in the lobby for bus departure by 8:15 am.
Again, please be aware of safety on the field trips. Hard hats, safety glasses and safety vets will be provided. For all active sites we will be visiting, please be sure to wear long pants (no flowing clothing or dresses) and close-toe/closed-heal shoes (no flip flops or sandals). We will be attending site specific training at these locations.

Time is closing in on the 54th Forum on the Geology of Industrial Minerals annual meeting held in Austin, TX. This meeting is being hosted by the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas at Austin and co-sponsored by the Texas section of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME).

One more FGIM meeting down and many more to come! If you have never been on a FGIM field trip, they are chocked full of learning about the industrial minerals industry, from the geology of how the ore was created right down to the best mining practices in regards to efficiency, environmental concerns and the end user. There are also always chances to expand that ever growing rock & mineral collection!

Since we have this fancy new website and all, we now need to dress it up a bit! Since all of us love to be out in the field, how about send in some of your favorite field photos? These images will be put on the website AND a few good ones will be framed and sold for auction at the 2017 FGIM meeting.
The money from the auction goes towards the Forum and the Bates Scholarship fund. All the little bits help!
